It’s Alexya. And it’s time again for a new calendar for where to be in D.C. Thanks for being here! In the last month this project has grown so much, and I’m so grateful to you for that. The number of times someone subscribes to the newsletter through sheer word of mouth from friends is really humbling.

We had our first F+F meetup this week at Suns Cinema’s Jazz Night. It was a moody night but the energy was perfect. Thanks to Friend of F+F Brian Chou for bringing mahjong and keeping the party alive well into the night.

This first-of-the-month newsletter comes as I’ve personally been exploring (mostly against my will) the boundaries of my own energy. I fretted for a couple days about not being able to find 30+ events to jam onto this calendar, for not having the time to develop a feature piece for this newsletter, for missing my own (arbitrary) deadline of launching merch — all while fielding an exceptionally busy time in life and trying to push forward on a ton of new ideas.

And then I remembered: this project was never for productionmaxxing. It has always been about finding the ideas and events that are genuinely worth spending time on — that’s why we’re here in this space together to begin with.

So this is a brief but beautiful one! More fun feature-y content coming later this month but for now I’ll stop yapping so you can get outside.

In this latest F+F letter, you’ve got

  • THE CALENDAR, as always, the printable F+F Community Calendar for SEPTEMBER

  • THE HOOKUP, a sneaky code for ticket discounts to an upcoming film festival

  • THE HIGHLIGHTS, a.k.a. five events worth putting on your schedule right now.

F+F RUNS ON YOUR INTEL. Share details for a D.C. event you want me to include in the next newsletter by email or on Instagram @formandfunctiondc.

Need friends to FUNCTION with? Forward this email to a pal and help us build our subscriber community.

See you out there,
