*ring ring*

A breezy bossa beat hums through the speaker. An operator’s voice floats in on the line.

Thank you for calling the PINKLINE by Form and Function.

I’m your host, Alexya Brown. Keep listening for your D.C. events list for the month of June.

As a reminder, the events we feature are hosted by independent organizers operating in the D.C. area.

Now, for this month’s featured events.

Many events require tickets or RSVPs. Find everything you need to know about the June calendar lineup here.

Every month you’ll get the F&F printable calendar, and I’ll dig out some highlights of the events that you need to plan to be at ASAP.

BOOK TALK WITH NIGERIAN AUTHOR ‘PEMI AGUDA ON HER FIRST BOOK @ LOST CITY — TUESDAY, JUNE 2 AT 7PM

It’s a far too rare privilege to meet an author touring their first-ever novel, let alone one that explores new depths in motherhood and the flipside of “progress.” Lost City Books is an endlessly engaging space to meet other literary-minded people. Bookmark their events calendar for lots more.

VINO VERITE PRESENTS APARNA RAJ FOR WARD 1 @ SUNS CINEMA — MONDAY, JUNE 8 AT 7PM

One from yours truly: the monthly wine bar gets a special edition in June to celebrate Election Season in D.C. Meet Ward 1 Councilmember candidate and friend of the pod Aparna Raj. DJs My Friend Jack and Dave From Stoke are on their diabolical duo beat. And there are always hot dogs courtesy of Mount Pleasant darling Chef G. No cover.

‘FOMO’ THE INDEPENDENT ARTISTS’ SALON @ RHIZOME — TUESDAY, JUNE 16 AT 5:30PM

Love making art but hate how solitary the creative process gets? MotorMouth Co. has a solution for that. This is a meetup for artists who want to work through their FOMO and make some friends in the process. Think of it as a creative communion.

HOME RULE FESTIVAL @ THE PARKS AT WALTER REED — SATURDAY, JUNE 20 AT 12PM

This is genuinely one of my favorite events in D.C. It’s the annual music festival organized by the owner of HR Records on Kennedy St. NW and friends. It’s an embodiment of Black D.C. and a resilient community. It’s free and open to all, with vendors on site for drinks, snacks, wares, and more.

LE LEGUME NO. 3 LAUNCH PARTY @ PROVIDENCIA — TUESDAY, JUNE 23 FROM 5-7PM

Have you thought about beans lately? Kris Martins has. She’s the creator of Le Legume, a food zine expanding what you know and love about beans. For the third edition of the zine, meet Kris at Providencia for a happy hour: meet other bean lovers, get your copies of Le Legume and sip cocktails inspired by the zine from the immensely talented bar team.
